Untitled document While there is taking place the procession with the statue of the Virgin Mary, the Vattienti (person who flagellate themselves publicly hitting with a cork filled with pieces of glass) roam throughout the streets.
They have their heads wrapped in black cloth and twear up a pair of shorts to leave uncovered thighs and beat with rhythmic movements. They roam the streets mixed with the procession and when they are close to the statue of the Virgin Mary, they make the sign of the cross, beat and pour their blood at the foot of the Virgin.
