Untitled document On 19th March is the feast of St. Joseph and the Saint finds many devotees in the baroque town of Scicli rich Mediterranean beauty, in the province of Ragusa. The Saint is the patron of carpenters, orphans and young women of marriageable age who call upon him to contract a good marriage. Here the saint is celebrated with the "ride", which recalls the flight of the Holy Family in Egypt. Horses and mules engaged in such folk events are festively decorated with seasonal flowers and are preceded in their march by three figures that represent the Holy Family, St. Joseph is represented with a blue cloak. When the procession passes through the processions in the city, the faithful lit bonfires, to remember the biblical event of the holy family's flight from Herod, when they were helped along their journey by bonfires and lit by torchesshepherds watched their flocks.
Untitled document On Saturday, it represents the escape into Egypt the Holy Family. With horses in splendid trappings and the horsemen in traditional costumes, the parade begins with the living picture of the Holy Family. The procession moves between "pagghiari" on, and flare of the "squish", the torches of rush green cut in August by the faithful. Sundays is carried in procession the statue of St. Joseph, while the trappings of the horses are exposed in the churchyard. The evening held an auction of local products.
