Untitled document The bagpipes festival of Scapoli, was born during the '70s as an event that could be at the same time an exhibition and a market place whose aim was to preserve this musical instrument that otherwise would have risked to become a ghost of the past. The 90s gave birth to an international festival aimed at the reappraisal of the role of the bagpipe in the traditional culture, a celebration seeking to overcome the stereotypes that lie around the complex universe of this instrument. In fact, there are many bands on the contemporary scenario that, throught new experimentations, allow us to relive the emotions, colors and perfumes of a often forgotten culture. A walk in the charming old town of Scapoli during the days of the event, makes every single moment unique, young and old musicians get together in narrow alleys and crowded squares jazzing them up and inspiring songs and dances of the Italian folk tradition. The participation of enthusiasts and connoisseurs is kept alive by the assiduity of the event that now, since 1975 has been taking place every last weekend of July, providing an unmissable event. The background of this small village is the massif Mainarde. The monks of St. Vincent founded this all village at the end of X.
