Untitled document The feast of San Rocco in
Palmi is one of a kind, an immersion into a world of devotion and respect, values that, today, are difficult to find.
From 14 to 16 August the followers thank Saint Rocco of his constant protection. Fairs, Fireworks and a parade of giant will enliven the days, but
devotion and
penitence are the essential elements of this feast. Every follower, who decides to walk the procession long 7 kilometres, wears a spalas (cloak of thorns) that crowns the torso and a great icon of the saint on his chest, he is accompanied by a strong desire to pay homage to the saint and his miraculous powers. On 12 August at 17:30, the statue of San Rocco is situated in the centre of the church while some bangers burst from Mount St. Elias. The morning of 16 August the statue is prepared for the procession embellished with silver. Finally there is the procession that runs through the streets of city and in front to the public places most significant . The procession arrives in the square 1° May and the statue of
Saint Rocco is encircled by a flood of people, in this place the Saint receives the solemn Benediction and the statue return in the church. Monica Sperandio
