SALENTO

The Salento is that strip of land that forms the heel of his boot. Inserted between two wonderful seas: the Ionian Sea (west) and the Adriatic Sea (east) with more than 250 km of coast at times low and sandy, sometimes high and jagged.
It was conquered in the east with the passage of the Greeks, Byzantines, Barbary pirates. The first inhabitants of Salento Messapi were the famous horse breeders, who arrived from the coasts of 'Illyria.
Salento is a peninsular region south of Puglia-Salento orientaleIl geographically equivalent to the old land of Otranto and therefore covers the entire province of Lecce, with 97 countries and 39 small villages surrounded by green olive trees, tobacco and vineyards, with white houses and narrow winding streets, each with its own dialect and in some countries is still spoken greek, almost all of Brindisi and part of Taranto, along the axis joining Taranto Ostuni.
It extends from the so ddetta ¿½ 'threshold messapica' to Cape Santa Maria di Leuca, between the Gulf of Taranto (Ionian Sea) and the Strait of Otranto (Adriatic Sea).
Another unique aspect of Salento is naturalistic, with as many as 1390 species of flowering plants.
