| LIGURIA |
|
A thin strip of mountains, stretching out to arch over the sea so there appears on the map, Liguria, one of the smallest Italian regions. The mountains belong to the 'Ligurian Apennines and the Alps Maritimes. Are not high and have many crossings that connect to Piedmont, Liguria and Emilia-Romagna: Steps Cadibona, the Turchino Giovi of Scoffera, di Cento Croci, and others. The highest peak is Mount Saccarello of Liguria: only 2,200 m. The mountain ranges are cut by short valleys, crossed by rivers and streams with steep slopes that descend towards the sea raging and dangerously swollen with water during periods of rain, or almost dry for the rest of the year. In Liguria there are no real plains: the mountains descend almost everywhere to the sea. To the east of Genoa on the Riviera di Levante, the coasts are steep and rugged: it is a succession of cliffs, coves, wooded headlands. There are, on this coast, a town famous: Portofino, Portovenere, Cinque Terre. To the west of Genoa, however, lies the Riviera di Ponente: The coast is less rugged, mountain ranges down into the sea with a slope more gentle, deep in coves, sandy beaches are opened wider. At some point there are also short tracks and as the plain of Albenga.
