CETACEAN SANCTUARY
 
The Cetacean Sanctuary, also called Pelagos Sanctuary, a protected marine area included in the French territory, Monaco and Italy.In Italian territory, the Sanctuary for marine mammals was established in 1991 as a Marine Protected Area of internationally interest, and covers an area of 2,557,258 ha in the sea of Liguria, Sardinia and Tuscany.
The concentration of whales and dolphins is extraordinarily high so that the whale watching (the observation of these marine mammals) has become a major activity togheter with the care and preservation of the marine environment.
