| TUSCANY |
|
The Tuscany include a wide area, shape, wholesale, triangular. It borders several regions: north-west for a short while, with Liguria to the north with the Emilia-Romagna to the east by the Marches and Umbria to the south with Lazio to the west is wet from The Tyrrhenian Sea, where is the Tuscan archipelago with the island of Elba, the third largest in Italy after Sicily and Sardinia. The coasts are almost everywhere low and sandy; exception, to the south, the mountainous promontory of Argentario, joined to the mainland by three cordons surrounding the lagoon of Orbetello. Tuscany is mainly composed of hills and mountains, plains occupy just the 8% of its surface. The findings have major peaks sometimes exceeding 2,000 m altitude. Through the Apennines, Tuscany communicates with the Adriatic coast with a series of passes, including the Passo della Cisa, Abetone, the Futa. The Apennines branching off in chains arranged in parallel between one and the other open along valleys: Lunigiana, Garfagnana, Mugello, Casentino. Between the Apennines and the coast mountain ranges and some rising hills that form a system called Antiappennino; they belong: the Apuan Alps, Garfagnana and in the Tyrrhenian Sea, for centuries, providing large quantities of marble, the Monti del Chianti , between Florence and Siena, the Metalliferous Hills, between Siena and the sea, rich in minerals, the massif of Mount Amiata, a volcanic cone off the border with Umbria and Lazio. The landscape is typical of Tuscan hill slopes, which are as sweet mosaic of different crops from the vine to the olive fields of wheat, cypress trees bordering fields or climb into avenues to houses at the top of the hills. Among the plains, the largest and Valdarno Inferiore, traveled as the name indicates the lower reaches of the Arno, to the mouth to the south, the hills and the sea, lies the Maremma, a wide flat area at one time completely of swamps and now reclaimed, and partly by the creation of a protected natural park. The rivers all flow into the Tyrrhenian Sea. The greater the Arno, which originates from Mount Falterona and after describing a great curve bathes Florence and Pisa. Other major rivers: the Cecina, the Ombrone, the lean, the Serchio, the Sieve. In general the climate is that of the Tyrrhenian regions: relatively mild winters, warm summers and dry.
