In north-central area of the lagoon lies the city of Venice, 4 km from the mainland and 2 from the open sea. The city lies on the immediate mainland also widely conurbation with the Mestre-Marghera-Favaro Veneto. At the south lies the town of Chioggia instead, while the eastern end of the small towns included in the municipality of Cavallino-Treporti. Other smaller towns but certainly very fascinating are the inhabited islands of the lagoon are the shoreline of Lido, Murano, Pellestrina, Burano, Sant'Erasmo Mazzorbo the Vignole, Torcello, Mazzorbetto and San Clemente.
