Italian Alpine Village, rich of History

Alagna Valsesia is an ancient alpine village, situated in one of the main valleys of Monte Rosa. His history has very ancient roots, the main settlement dates back around 1200 when Walser peoples beyond the borders of the Monte Rosa from Switzerland to reach the Italian valleys. To these peoples is linked the architecture of the village with wooden houses, the culinary traditions and the pride of the people living here. During the 1800 Alagna had a revival with the birth of mountaineering in the country and were built the first turistic structures, and other expeditions followed one another to achieve the ascent of the main peaks of Monte Rossa. Some shipments revolve around the figure of Father Gnifetti symbol. Alagna in recent history has become a destination for tourism Elite, addicted to skiing in winter and hiking and mountaineering in summer. Alagna has the Indren Glacier where you could ski in August, sadly no longer accessible for some years because of melting ice. There is also an important link finished in 2006, with Gressoney that can connect via cable to the other valleys of the Monterosa and enjoy one of the largest ski areas in Europe. Alagna is also famous for the black track off limits "La Balma", one of the most difficult ski slopes and dangerous in Europe.
