Arpino is a village 30 km from Frosinone and 7 from Isola del Liri, Italy. It is not a resort well-known even though it is one of the sites where you can admire the megalithic walls in Italy.
Legend has it that Arpino was founded by the god Saturn, its first inhabitants were Pelasgians, the mythical, pre-Hellenic population to whom tradition attributes the construction of the gigantic system of fortified "cyclopean walls", so called "Pelasgians". The History, however, says that its first inhabitants were the Volscians, followed by the Samnites and the Romans. During the High Middle Ages was conquered by the Lombards, then by the Franks, then again by the Hungarians, Normans and Swabians. With a history as troubled is a miracle that is still standing in the Acropolis of Civitavecchia, the ancient heart of Arpino, closed by imposing megalithic walls, also called for the gigantic size of the boulders with which they are built. In them it opens a door to the original pointed arch, the only of its kind in Europe and dominated by the Tower of Cicero (who seems to have been born here). Visiting the country - which has been awarded the Orange Flag of the Touring Club - you can also read the book of stone: this is a unique initiative that combines the charm of this town and at times bitter with the suggestions of contemporary poetry. The poems famous contemporary poets, guests of the city, devoted to Arpino were engraved on the stone and placed in the four districts which divides the historic center.
