VARIGOTTI

ligury pearl

Untitled document Varigotti is a charming fishing village in Liguria.
Its birth was due to the presence in this stretch of coast, a natural bay protected from the winds that made this place one of the safest ports throughout the Riviera di Ponente. For this reason it was admired by the Romans, Byzantines and Lombards. Then came the Saracens, from Provence who settled in Varigotti security of the site not easily accessible from the ground. Hence the name "Saracens" attributed to the inhabitants of Varigotti and type of Moorish houses of the old town, which is not found in any other location in Liguria.
The port, the subject of contention between Noli and the marquis of Finale, saw its peak precisely with the domain of Del Carretta. It was the Genoese in 1341 to bury the port of Varigotti to eliminate potential rivals.
Varigotti today's economy is based primarily on tourism concentrated in the summer months, thanks to two long stretches of beach located east of the 'ancient Saracen village (location Malpasso) and close to the village to the west of the country more recently, with many beaches.
Architectural Church of St. Lawrence dating from the twelfth century and the castle, a watchtower, dating from the sixteenth century which is located inside the Natural Park of Punta cream.
