MODICA

baroque splendor

Modica is one of the most historically interesting and well preserved cities of Sicily and Italy in general, is indeed a city of ancient origins, founded in the fifth century b.C. it was almost totally destroyed by the earthquake of 1693. The reconstruction was performed on the existing site, although the old urban fabric was partially renovated. The city, therefore, located on some spurs of the Monti Iblei, is divided into Modica Bassa (low) and Modica Alta (high), whose homes are climbing the sides of the sourronding hills.
Is interesting to walk to the Belvedere Pizzo, where both night and day you can enjoy a beautiful view over the city.
