The strip of land of Capo Passero, and the town that is located over the same promontory, Portopalo, are the Southern tip of Sicily.
The place is certainly fascinating, due to the geographic location that splits in two the Ionian Sea and the Mediterrenean Sea. It's also very fascinating as this arm of land has been modeled by nature over the centuries with the small island of Capo Passero that lies a few dozen feet away and is connected to the mainland by a small stretch of a few centimeters deep sea where the currents of the two seas meet and clash together.
The water is always very clean and there's always the possibility depending on the direction of the wind, to be located on one side or the other of the coast (usually the Ionian side is more protected from the winds and is the one with the more clear water).
It's also interesting to see the remains of the trap of Capo Passero, and the mysterious hotel built in the 60s and now totally abandoned.
The entrance to the hotel is possible, but there is danger of being cut with broken glasses on the floor, or that something new landslides from the ceiling.
The whole town is very interesting and beautiful, but the standards of tourism are still far from what is worthy of a place like this with a similar geographic location.
