The "Dancing Satyr", or "Satiro in ecstasy," has been retrieved from the depths of the sea near the town of Mazara del Vallo, in the spring of 1998. This sculpture, according to some, is an original of the fourth century BC attributed to Praxiteles or a reply later, built in Hellenistic period or, as other scholars, in Roman times. Since 1999 has been the subject of a complex restoration intervention.
It's one of the most important archaeological goods in Italy, and one of the most important recent discoveries in this field.
The statue can be visited every day.
