THE ETNA VULCANO

The power of nature

Etna, Vesuvius together, are the two most representative volcanoes in Italy. Than the latter, however, Etna wakes up every few years to create a unique spectacle lava, often with damage to the adjacent room.
It is located in eastern Sicily, in the Catania area, reaching a maximum elevation of 3,300 meters. Although in the southern regions of Italy, during the winter is covered with snow. The internal structure of Etna macrocratere includes a half mile in diameter, surrounded by dozens of other smaller craters.
The huge area covered and the different altitudes allow the fertility of different flower species. Near the volcano there are several hamlet: Acireale, Randazzo, Zafferana Etnea. This last, during the last wave of lava, he risked big. In periods of stagnation, however, the surrounding land is very fertile and suitable for agriculture.
Both the base of the crater that small places mentioned, eventually forming part of a regional park, protected, and aimed at development of cultural and anthropological Etna area.
Several legends have affected Etna, with stories that intersect with the presence of Greeks in Sicily and the belief in gods.
