TRIESTE

culture and tradition

Trieste that exudes charm city intellectual, having been home to many writers who chose to spend most of their lives. Is also the land of "frontier" as it came under Italy only in 1954.
It stands on the eastern tip of Friuli Venezia Giulia, directly overlooking the bay that bears his name. The vital center of the city is the large open-Unit, with an opening directly on the Adriatic Sea. Next there is the Palazzo Comunale and the famous pier Bold for pleasant promenade.
The oldest part of town is in an elevated position than the rest, this is the site of the Cathedral of San Giusto, dating from the fourteenth century. Another point missed is the Grand Canal of Trieste, in Theresian. There are many museums that enrich the city culturally: the Gallery of Modern Art, the Museum of the sea or of ancient art are examples.
The central Europe that is breathed in Trieste is due to the history of past centuries, especially with the Habsburg rule of Maria Theresa, already steeped in Enlightenment ideals. More recently he has seen the birth of Umberto Saba or Claudio Magris. Even James Joyce spent a period in his life is dedicated to him a statue in the center of the city.
