ITALIAN REGIONS

CAMPANIA Campania
Campania Campania is bordered to the north of Lazio, north-east, Molise, Puglia to the east, south-east, Basilicata to the west is washed by the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The territory is mostly hilly. The measurements are different by nature of the rocks and distribution. From north to south follow in an irregular way of the massive limestone blocks from basins and valleys, the vegetation is sparse, and rainwater, infiltrating into the soil, creating a sort of karst phenomenon, with caves and underground caves. The mountains are most important: the Monti del Matese, is located in the region's highest peak, Mount Miletto (2,050 m); Sannita the Apennines, which marks the watershed between the rivers of the Tyrrhenian and the Adriatic side of Mounts Picentini; Mount sapwood, the Massif of Cilento. Between the crossings, the saddle of Vinchiaturo connects with Molise, Sella di Puglia Ariano Irpino with the saddle of Conza Basilicata.
Campania is a land with frequent and violent earthquakes and vulcano phenomenons. On the border with Lazio's Roccamorfina the volcano, around the Gulf of Naples are arranged to the north of the volcanic hills called Campi Flegrei ('burning'), from which gas and vapor out to the south of Vesuvius, a volcano activities whose last eruption dates back to 1944. Pozzuoli is interested in a phenomenon of slow lowering and raising of the ground (bradyseism negative and positive). The area most subject to earthquakes bell is, however, the Sannita Appenine: The last earthquake of 1980 devastated the provinces of Avellino and Salerno and Naples also touched with a total budget of thousands of lives and causing damage.
The flat part of the region is mostly near the coast, it was formed from deposits carried by the rivers. There are four zones: the plain of the Garigliano, Volturno, the Sarno, Sele. Their characteristics change from the extreme fertility of the area around Naples, due to the ashes of Vesuvius, the quality of the land to the north and south, once a swampy, malaria-treated and now healed.
